‘We’ll fight’: Alex Waislitz on family battles and bad bets

The billionaire investor is mired in battles with his ex-wife, future sister-in-law, developer Tim Gurner and investor Nicholas Bolton. But he’s up for it, he says.

When Alex Waislitz was starting out as an investor, he made a point of criss-crossing the country, meeting prospects in person, and checking out their carpets and car parks.

It was a tip he learnt from his former boss and “hero” Robert Holmes à Court, the legendary corporate raider and Australia’s first billionaire, who told him the thicker the carpet, the smaller the dividend.
