To borrow parlance from the football transfer world, Westpac’s move to poach Luci Ellis from the RBA last year was as close as macro nerds get to a big summer signing. She’d spent 32 years at the central bank. Her last role was acting as the RBA’s chief economist in the Philip Lowe era.
Now, in replacing Bill Evans, and as the first female chief economist at a big four bank, her predictions on the movements of interest rates make their own headlines.
