Victorian taxpayers will be slugged $1 billion to pay for another blowout to the Metro Tunnel, with Transport Infrastructure Minister Danny Pearson blaming COVID-19, the invasions of Gaza and Ukraine, and interest rate hikes.
A further $837 million from the public purse will have to be spent on the rail tunnel through the Melbourne CBD, Mr Pearson announced on Thursday on the eve of the AFL grand final parade public holiday.
