It’s been noisy in Parliament House these past few weeks, what with culture wars weaponising sexual assault with the aim of gaining a political scalp, and a deteriorating debate in no-man’s land on an Indigenous Voice to parliament.

Which is possibly why two significant developments that point to much of what will shape the country – as well as the political debate – in coming months haven’t really been noticed or fully understood.
