ACTU calls for grocery prices panel, rejects divestiture push

A permanent prices commission, and not forced divestiture powers to break up the country’s supermarket giants, would help households and boost competition in the grocery sector, ACTU secretary Sally McManus says.

The Greens, Nationals and crossbenchers including Bob Katter are pushing for new powers for the competition watchdog to be able to apply to the Federal Court to break up grocery retailers found to be misusing their market power.
