PM should focus on helping Ukraine, not self-obsessed defence deals
It’s right that both Australia and Germany rearm to counter Xi and Putin partnership. But how can we not focus the same energy and attention on helping the one nation actually at war with Russia?

The problem is so grave that US President Joe Biden has concluded he had little choice but to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions – a class of weapons many countries, including Australia, have banned from military use because of their dangers to non-combatants during and after war.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is visiting Europe to attend a meeting in Vilnius that is devoted to what NATO countries, the EU and partners such as Australia and Japan can do to give Ukraine what it needs to push back Russian forces.
