Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe has fended off accusations that his board were amateurs, that the central bank was too insular and that he hadn’t hired an external executive since the Spice Girls got together.
Labor MP Andrew Leigh sparked a heated exchange in a parliamentary hearing on Friday, where the Reserve Bank’s governor, deputy governor and two assistant governors were called upon to defend the bank’s actions.
