IR debacle is a lesson in how to waste a crisis

Australia’s political class seems to have learned nothing at all from the deepest economic dip since the Great Depression.

A precious golden opportunity for Australian workers has been lost. The Morrison government’s five-pronged industrial relations bill collapsed on Thursday over the finish line in the Senate with just one of its measures intact.

This will allow casual workers on regular rosters to convert to permanent jobs (without casual pay loading) and protect employers from huge bills for double-dipped holiday pay that a Federal Court decision last year might have entitled the workers to.
