Economists abandon hopes of RBA cutting rates in February

Economists at AMP, ANZ Bank and Bank of Queensland are unified in pushing out their forecasts for the timing of Reserve Bank interest rate cuts next year, as consensus around February as a window for easing crumbles.

All three banks now expect the RBA to begin its easing cycle in May. ANZ’s head of Australian economics Adam Boyton also wound back his prediction to two cuts of one-quarter of a percentage point each, down from three.
