Trump isn’t kowtowing to the market – he’s doubling down

Investors need to be bold during these dark days. You want to be buying when the crowd is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

What a crazy, crazy week. And, bizarrely, we ended up where we expected. Donald Trump has introduced the harshest tariff regime in the US since the late 1800s. And consistent with our priors, he only really cares about hammering his central adversary, China.

Trump has smashed China with total incremental tariffs in his second presidential term that sum to an astonishing 123 per cent, which makes for a cumulative tariff burden of 145 per cent.
