A further slide in oil prices to near seven-year lows is putting extra strain on local producers' capital expenditure budgets and cost targets for 2016, while asset write-downs appear to have become a near certainty for some.

Woodside Petroleum, Oil Search and Santos are all thought to be scouring their businesses for additional savings despite major cutbacks earlier this year.
