So, we have finally received the long-awaited December quarter inflation data, which has paved the way for the Reserve Bank of Australia to cut interest rates for the first time since November 2020.

Martin Place opened the door to this possibility when it shocked the market by suddenly shifting to an “easing bias” that presaged lower rates at its board meeting in December last year.
