‘Thankful’ Scolyer surprised to be alive despite brain cancer’s return

Former Australian of the Year Professor Richard Scolyer says he counts himself lucky to be alive despite learning last week that his brain cancer had returned after almost two years of an initially successful revolutionary treatment.

“I feel devastated and upset about it,” he told ABC Radio Sydney on Tuesday, adding he was on the verge of tears while doing the interview.
