Virgin Australia’s new CEO must navigate a narrow path to the ASX

Having locked in a bumper deal with Qatar Airways and landed on a successor to Jayne Hrdlicka, the airline has cleared the decks for another run at listing.

Virgin Australia’s new chief executive, Dave Emerson, will formally start in the top job this week with one big item on his agenda: convincing local fund managers to support the airline’s re-listing on the ASX.

The last time the Bain Capital-owned airline did the rounds of investors and fund managers, Qantas shares were hovering around $7 and its chief executive, Vanessa Hudson, was trying to convince the market that it was not “as good as it gets” for the sector. Qantas stock has since soared past $10.
