Woolworths suppliers put on ‘holiday’ for price pushback, ACCC hears
New Woolworths chief executive Amanda Bardwell has defended the prices paid by the country’s largest supermarket to its suppliers and denied there is a power imbalance after the competition regulator described fruit and vegetable growers as “price takers” in an inquiry into its practices.
The treatment of suppliers and the nature of price negotiations was front and centre in the second day of a public Australian Competition and Consumer Commission hearing questioning Woolworths executives.
