Welcome to ‘New Recruits’ – a weekly wrap of all the major player moves in local SA footy this pre-season.
Each week leading into season 2023 The Messenger will wrap the big movements across the state, including all country and suburban competitions.
We have seen more big moves recently, with a former AFL superstar headlining the changes.
Here are the movements from the past week
ADELAIDE FOOTY LEAGUE
Lucas Foenander (Casino Lions to Henley)
Travis Doyle (Reynella to Mitchell Park)
Lucas Foenander has joined division two club Henley after time with the Casino Lions in Byron Bay.
Foenander will add depth to the club’s midfield troops as it aims to compete in finals and for promotion to division one.
FAR NORTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Luke Donald (East Roxby)
Luke Donald has joined East Roxby in the FNFL ahead of season 2023.
Donald is a big centre half-forward who works hard in the contest and can cover ground efficiently through four quarters.
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Matt Perkins (Peake and District to Nairne Bremer)
Perkins has joined Nairne Bremer United in the HFL after a season as co-captain of Peake and District in the Mallee Football League.
Perkins previously played for Onkaparinga Valley in the HFL before moving to the Mallee.
He booted five goals and tallied five best-player appearances in 13 games last season.
KOWREE NARACOORTE TATIARA FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Caleb Johnston (Ports to Kybybolite)
Rory Speirs (Hamley Bridge to Kybybolite)
Kybybolite has been busy in the KNTFL, picking up two new players for its squad this year.
Caleb Johnston of Ports in the Port Lincoln FL joins former Hamley Bridge player Rory Speirs.
Johnston has been an exciting winger for Ports and should add flare to his new club’s lineuo.
MID SOUTH EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Dane Swan (Nangwarry)
Collingwood premiership player Dane Swan has committed to open the 2023 Mid South Eastern FL season with Nangwarry.
The Brownlow Medallist will play a series of local games across Australia and promises to be a major drawcard for Saints and South East footy fans.
Nangwarry will be seeking its second win in nine seasons after snapping an eight-year win drought last season.
