From former AFL stars to local champions, the local SA footy offseason has already seen some huge player movements. See the major transfers across the state - both city and country - so far.

Welcome to the first instalment of ‘On the Move’ – a weekly wrap of all the major player transfers in local SA footy.

Each week of the offseason The Messenger will wrap up the big movements from across the state, including all country and suburban competitions.

It has been a busy offseason so far and some significant moves have already been made, headlined by three former AFL players.

Here are the standout transfers so far.

ADELAIDE FOOTY LEAGUE

The Adelaide Footy League has seen a host of moves already made just two weeks into the offseason, headlined by some big SA names.

Luke Brown has joined old teammates at division one club Tea Tree Gully after calling time on his AFL career at the Crows, marking the biggest local signing so far.

Former Crows midfielder and Norwood icon Mitch Grigg departed Hills FL club Lobethal after a premiership-winning season to follow in late father Chris’ footsteps and rejoin junior club Athelstone in division two.

Three-time Hawthorn premiership player Paul Puopolo has also returned to his junior club in Hope Valley after spending time with Virginia in the Adelaide Plains Football League, a big boost for the newly-promoted division three club.

Former Gold Coast Suns and Norwood player Josh Glenn has marked his return to the game by signing with emerging powerhouse Golden Grove and joining ex-Redlegs Cam Shenton, Jake Pitman and Lewis Johnston, while Sturt premiership forward Jake Sutcliffe leaves div one side St Peter’s OC to join Scott Thompson’s Unley Mercedes Jets.

Brighton Bombers leader Brody Trembath has signed with division four club Morphettville Park to join brother Deacon Trembath, former Glenelg and North Adelaide player Michael Virgin enters div two with PHOS Camden, while Elizabeth, Kilburn, Para Hills and Brahma Lodge have all been busy in the lower divs.

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Jarrod Kellock (Vic to Langhorne Creek)

Jackson Dalitz (Lameroo to Langhorne Creek)

Langhorne Creek have had a strong start to the offseason in the Great Southern Football League, bringing past playersJarrod Kellock and Jackson Dalitz back to the club.

Kellock, who excels across half forward, spent last season in Victoria after starring for Langhorne Creek in 2021 and will provide a big boost to the Hawks next year, while Dalitz returns after time in the Mallee Football League with Lameroo.

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE/HFL COUNTRY DIVISION

Liam Potts (Payneham Norwood Union to Onkaparinga Valley)

Brad Yendall, Lachlan Haufe, Adam Bridgewood, Cameron Bell (Torrens Valley)

Hills Football League side Onkaparinga Valley has added promising Payneham Norwood Union ruck/utility Liam Potts to their ranks for 2023, marking a major inclusion after finishing bottom in 2022.

Potts was among PNU’s best a handful of times and kicked six goals as the Falcons were relegated.

Hills Football League Country Division side Torrens Valley has also been proactive, signing four players so far after finishing bottom.

KOWREE NARACOORTE TATIARA FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Brodie Foster (South Gambier to Penola)

Brodie Foster will return to Penola after time with South Gambier in the Western Border Football League.

A star forward who has played over 100 games for the Eagles and won two premierships with the club, Foster has also spent time at Glencoe, kicking 118 goals in the 2019 season.

His return will be a welcomed boost for a Penola side which finished with the wooden spoon this year.

MID SOUTH EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Henry Lawrie (Kingston to Robe)

Colby Munro (South Gambier to Port MacDonnell).

Port MacDonnell kicked its offseason off in exciting fashion by securing the services of South Gambier forward Colby Munro.

Munro booted 23 goals across half forward last season and will complement Port Mac star and MSEFL Mail Medalist Tim Sullivan well.

Defender Henry Lawrie has also joined struggling side Robe after a strong season with Kingston in the KNTFL in which he had six best player appearances.

WHYALLA FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Damien Coyne (North Whyalla to West Whyalla)

Billy-Jo Russell (South Augusta to West Whyalla)

Rian Smoker (North Whyalla to West Whyalla).

West Whyalla has approached the offseason with intent after bowing out in the first round of the Whyalla Football League finals this year.

Damien Coyne headlines the recruits, the midfielder winning three straight premierships with the club before moving to North Whyalla for seasons 2021 and 2022.

He won North Whyalla’s best and fairest in both seasons and was also selected in two straight WFL teams of the year.
