A Hills Football League power has won its first premiership since 2002 after two halves of extra time, sending fans and players into delirium at the final siren.

Lobethal defeated top side Hahndorf – who had won four flags in a row – 7.9 (51) to 6.12 (48) after the two sides were unable to be separated in regular time.

Forward Josh Sewer kicked a late goal in the final term to level the scores but the Tigers and Magpies had to regather themselves at the full-time siren and prepare for two five-minute halves of added time.

Hahndorf gained the ascendancy in what was a scrap during the first five-minute half and, despite being unable to register a goal, sat a kick clear before the break.

The Tigers again fought back however, with star onballers Mitch Grigg, Matt Fuller and best on ground Aidan Riley standing up in the contest.

With just over two minutes remaining, Lobethal’s Jack Stafford took an intercept mark just inside the 50, went back and slotted through a huge goal to put his side in front by three points.

The Tigers then held firm at the back and through the middle to see out the win, achieving their first premiership since 2002 and the club’s second extra time flag after its 1998 win, also over Hahndorf.

More to come.
