A BLANKET email has been sent from the Gore Street Medical centre’s email address urging patients to attend an anti-vaccine mandate rally on Sunday.
The Mercury has obtained a copy of the letter, which was sent through the centre’s main email address and signed off by naturopath Viola Hemm.
“For the love of FREEDOM I summon you NOW to stand up for yourself and a mate loosing (sic) their Job!” the email reads.
“We will not be mandated! We will not be mandated! We will not be mandated! All signs point to this event, momentum has built, the cracks are showing.”
Gore Street patient Debbie McCabe was shocked when she received the email earlier this week, despite never having used the services of Viola Hemm.
“Why does a naturopath have my email address?” Ms McCabe said.
“My concern is the politicisation. Whether you’re up for mandatory vaccines or not is one thing, but this is politicising my doctor.”
Peter Baratosy, a former doctor at Gore Street Medical centre, has been publicly critical of vaccinations and modern medicine in general.
Dr Baratosy has publicly stated his view that modern medicine should only be used as a last resort for end-of-life scenarios, and that “natural” remedies should otherwise prevail.
He has also studied several branches of alternative medicine, including homoeopathy and acupuncture.
Dr Baratosy has written several books, including Can You Really Believe What Your Doctor Tells You?, There is Always an Alternative, and Vaccination: It’s Your Choice.
Dr Baratosy stepped down from the centre following the vaccine mandate, but is exploring options for whether he will be able to return.
The rally is run by Reclaim The Line, which is holding similar rallies around Australia on Sunday.
Spokesman Reg Watson said they were expecting a large crowd on Parliament Lawns in Hobart.
“We believe in retaining our right to choose our own medical interventions without enforcement,” he said.
“These mandates are against the Australian Constitution, the Nuremberg Code and absolute common sense.”
The Mercury contacted Gore Street Medical Centre to reach Viola Hemm, but received no response.
