Thor Morgan: Murder investigation begins after man shot in head dies, police release CCTV of shooting

A homicide investigation is now under way after a Toowoomba man was ambushed and shot in the head on a city street. Now CCTV footage of the deadly attack has been released.

Toowoomba Police have released CCTV footage of the dramatic moments a Toowoomba man was shot while driving with the Homicide Investigation Unit officially launching a homicide investigation after the man died in hospital.

Officers believe Toowoomba man Thor Stephen Morgan, 25, was tracked by a group of people from his girlfriend’s house in Coonan St, Harlaxton in the early hours of March 15 and ambushed in his car on Ruthven St near Downlands College.

Initial investigations revealed a number of shots were fired, one of which struck Mr Morgan in the head.

It is believed the shooters were in a white Ford Ranger dual cab utility which was later found torched in Felton.

Mr Morgan was transferred to Princess Alexandra Hospital following the incident, where he remained until his death on Monday morning.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said anyone with information was urged to come forward.

“Since the event occurred we have worked tirelessly to progress the matter, and I can say we are in a strong position today,” Sergeant McCusker said.

“We believe at least two persons were involved in the shooting of Mr Morgan.”

Sergeant McCusker said police believe the shooting was targeted, and that Mr Morgan knew his attackers.

Investigators are appealing for information from the public regarding the identity of a man on Pittsworth Felton Road at Pittsworth between 5.30am and 7.30am on the morning of March 15 attempting to hitchhike in the area.

The man is believed to be fair-skinned, slight to medium build, with short brown hair, possible aged in his 20s and wearing a black jacket, boardshorts with no shoes.

Police are yet to charge anyone over the incident.
