“He was a very quiet bloke, only came to have his three beers.
“Residents are very sad, he was one of the good old guys.”
FRIDAY, 4PM: The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a truck and utility collided on the New England Highway south of Toowoomba, killing a man.
Emergency services were called to the incident shortly after 11.30am on Friday near the intersection with Cambooya Connection Road following reports of at least one patient with critical injuries.
A rescue chopper was tasked to the scene and emergency services worked to revive the man.
Sadly he died at the scene.
It is understood the man was the occupant of the utility that was turning into Cambooya Connection Road when it collided with the truck in an apparent head-on collision.
The grain truck has then rolled and a third vehicle sustained minor damage.
A large amount of chicken feed was spread across the road causing significant delays in the clean-up process.
The truck driver was treated for minor injuries and shock.
Police cut the highway and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
It remained closed to traffic well into the evening as Ergon Energy linesmen repaired a damaged power line.
