Fraud and stealing charges against disgraced former Toowoomba car salesman David James Craigen have been again adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.
The 54-year-old, who in August 2021 was jailed for four years with a non-parole period of nine months after pleading guilty to a $150,000 fraud offence dating back to 2018/19, recently completed the nine-month component of that sentence.
Before his release from jail, Craigen appeared back before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court via video link from the prison on a further 10 charges including two counts of “fraud – dishonestly obtaining property from another to the value of or over $30,000 but less than $100,000”; and eight counts of stealing.
No details of those allegations have been aired in court and at his initial appearance on the charges Craigen denied the offences.
Craigen has not been required as yet to enter any pleas to the charges.
At the mention of the matters in court on Tuesday, police prosecutor Anita Page said the brief of evidence was available for the defence but some material remained outstanding.
Magistrate Kay Philipson reminded the prosecution that the brief was to have been disclosed two months ago.
Ms Philipson adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on July 19 by which time the full brief of evidence was to have been disclosed to the defence.
