Cameron Ross Coleman faces Toowoomba Magistrates Court for high range drink driving

Police found the 31-year-old pulled over to the side of the road and while he had done the right thing to stop the car to answer the phone, his breath test landed him in court.

After doing the right thing by pulling over to the side of the road to use his phone, a man was found to be more than three times over the limit.

Cameron Ross Coleman appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to high range drink driving.

The court was told that about 9.45pm, police were patrolling Turner Street in Helidon where they found Coleman behind the wheel of a running vehicle, which was pulled over to the side of the road.

Cameron Ross Coleman, 31, faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court on June 28, 2022 where he pleaded guilty to high range drink driving.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden said Coleman returned a reading of 0.158.

Coleman’s solicitor Michael Corbin said his client’s manner of driving wasn’t what alerted police and that he was noticed “doing the right thing” by pulling over to the side of the road to answer his phone.

Mr Corbin said his client had worked in a variety of jobs since leaving school, including within the mining and oil and gas industries, but most recently as a motel receptionist in Brisbane.

The court was told on the night in question Coleman had been drinking in Toowoomba before leaving to return home.

Magistrate Kay Ryan fined Coleman $1000, which was referred to SPER, and disqualified him from holding a driver’s licence for six months. No conviction was recorded.
