After more than a decade of running international restaurants, Steve Lopez decided it was time for a change.

Now the Gatton resident is months away from opening a Snap gym franchise at the highly-anticipated Plainland Crossing precinct.

He said the convenient Warrego Highway site would fill the growing gap in the fitness market between Ipswich and Toowoomba.

“I started thinking about what people were looking for in a post-pandemic world and found health and fitness was at the top of the list,” he said.

“We’ve been driving through Plainlands for many years and we’ve seen it grow substantially over this time, with a demand for development from both a commercial and residential point of view.”

Catering to older residents and young families, the fully-functional facility will be open 24 hours, offer childminding services and feature indoor, outdoor and group fitness areas.

The spacious centre will cover a combined floorspace of 750 sqm.

While some tenants have yet to be confirmed for the new precinct, Snap will be joined by Auto Masters with interest received from other national retailers.

The Warrego Highway site is adjacent to the Mobil fuel station and McDonalds.

It follows the construction of the Plainlands Aldi, Bunnings Warehouse and Coffee Club drive-thru, all of which were constructed in the past three years.

“As the Plainland area has developed, we’ve really started to notice people looking for services closer to home and Bunnings is a great example of that,” Mr Lopez said.

“While there are specialty offerings in surrounding towns, Plainland is yet to see a full range fitness facility … (Snap) is not only in response to community demands, but will bring additional employment opportunities to this growth corridor.”

With construction underway, Snap is expected to open in mid 2023.
