THE construction of a new Bunnings Warehouse in a key growth area east of Toowoomba has been called the "next logical step" in development.
De Luca Corporation confirmed last week it was building the new Bunnings off the Warrego Highway at Plainland Crossing in the Lockyer Valley, after purchasing the land from Maddison Ridge.
The $19 million project will create 400 jobs during construction.
LJ Hooker principal Mike Stewart said the massive warehouse chain would complement the existing growth in the area.
"We spoke to them over a lengthy period of time, and agreed that Plainlands is the best geographic centre and logical place to have a new town centre," he said.
"The key to that is there is a lot of land around it, and the land is inexpensive.
"The Catholic Church is establishing a new K-12 school there, we've put the sewerage infrastructure in there, and we've recently sold a block of land to Aldi.
"We've just opened a new Mobil service station and it would appear that a national food operator is going in that servo.
"It's the next logical step that you'd have a hardware store there."
The Bunnings, which has signed a 10-year lease on the site, is expected to be trading by Easter next year.
From 2021, Plainland Crossing will also be home to two service stations, a McDonald's, an Aldi supermarket and a new school.
