More businesses are moving into one of southern Queensland’s fastest-growing communities, with a Melbourne company planning to open a second store.
Victorian-based Tyre Team International Pty Ltd, which trades as Sonny Tyre and Auto Care, lodged plans with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council to build a two-tenancy building in the new business centre along Endeavour Way at Plainland.
The site would sit directly north of the new Plainland Bunnings, and would also use the same road.
According to the report by Clark Town Planning, the project would include a new Sonny Tyres in the main 196 sqm tenancy and a currently unknown business in the second 182 sqm space.
“The proposed development will include appropriate sized signage that will be clearly visible to local and highway traffic, especially western bound traffic on the Warrego Highway,” the report said.
“The tenant for the second tenancy is not known at this stage.
“However, if the future use is not covered by the definition of car repair station, other compatible uses such as warehouse and service industry are self assessable if no further building work is proposed.”
Sonny Tyres is latest in a long list of businesses to move into Plainland, as developers try to turn the locality into the region’s next mega-community dubbed “Plainland Crossing”.
The area already has a McDonald’s, drive-through cafes, a Bunnings, Aldi and other stores, while residential housing has also been ramping up.
This was reflected in the 2021 census, which showed Plainland’s population had grown by more than 500 residents (an increase of about 33 per cent) in just 10 years.
