Shocking act of vigilantism on Sunshine Coast street

An adult man has been filmed pulling a weapon on a group of eshays before shouting “who wants to f---ing get shanked” in a shocking act of vigilantism.

In the 22-second clip, the man and three young boys – with a fourth person behind the camera – are in a confrontation in the middle of a street having a heated argument, when the man pulls a small instrument from the back of his waistband and it falls on the ground behind him.

He then picks the instrument and shouts “Alright, let’s go, who wants to f---ing get shanked?” while the boys, including the person filming, sprint away. The man can be heard shouting something as they run away.

The video was shared to a Sunshine Coast social media account on Wednesday, but was deleted by Thursday morning.

It’s believed the incident took place on the Sunshine Coast.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said she could not confirm if any charges had been laid over the incident.

Two clips of vigilantes detaining teenagers emerged in October – one of a man chasing a group of teens in an allegedly stolen car on the Gold Coast, and another of a man in Townsville purportedly recovering a stolen motorbike.

On the Sunshine Coast, two men – one who abducted and assaulted a teenager after mistaking him for a boy who stole his friends car, and another who showed up at a teenage boys house with a baseball bat after relentless disruptive behaviour – faced court in November over their responses to misbehaving teenagers.

The Queensland Police spokeswoman said police appreciate the community reporting local criminal activity, which is vital in law enforcement; but discouraged vigilantism in any form.

“To ensure community safety, police recommend members of the public do not engage in methods of disrupting criminal activity which may involve risk of personal harm or further legal recourse,” she said.

“People who do attempt to take matters into their own hands can very well have any weapon turned on themselves and could face harm or in some cases could themselves face legal recourse dependent on their actions.”
