Hometown outfit Maroochydore FC have the ledger slighty in their favour after two engaging encounters on the opening day of the 2024 Football Queensland Junior Cup.

Kicking off the Under-13 girls Gold Cup tournament, Maroochydore FC couldn’t put one past Olympic FC in a tightly contested game, with it finishing nil-all.

But Maroochydore’s best was still to come, as they later returned to the pitch for a 2-1 win over Logan Lightning Maroon.

Teams from all over the state are on the Sunshine Coast for one of Football Queensland’s biggest junior tournaments of the year.

More than 1200 under-12 and under-13 players will take part in the three-day event.

Check out the massive schedule below for the Monday and Tuesday games.

Brisbane City opened their Under-12 boys Silver Cup campaign with an impressive 3-0 result over Magic United.

Olympic FC also are on the board with a 2-0 win against Capalaba FC in the same age group.

But South West Queensland Thunder FC carved out the best result in that grade, with a 5-0 demolition of FQ Wide Bay South.

With two in the back of the net before halftime, the Thunder stepped up the intensity to put another three past their rivals.

Results in the Under-12 boys Gold Cup were generally much tigher, with Redlands United getting the better of Wynnum Wolves 1-0.

But later on Brisbane City and Wynnum couldn’t be separated for a nil-all result, while Gold Coast United and Rochedale Rovers finised locked together at 1-1.

Olympic FC was one of the bigger winners in the Under-12 girls Gold Cup, taking down Woombye 3-0, while Gold Coast United enjoyed an identical scoreline over FQ Northern Yellow.

The KommunityTV coverage of the tournament will include all matches from two fields across the opening two days of the tournament, before expanding to four fields on finals day to ensure every grand final is live streamed.

More than 1200 under 12 and under 13 players will take part in the three-day 2024 Football Queensland Junior Cup at Maroochydore - and you can catch action from 75 games LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV.

The FQ Junior Cup was first launched in 2022 as an Academy-based competition before restructuring in 2023 to regional FQ academy centres, plus invited South East Queensland teams, to compete for the Cup Championship title.

The event will welcome more teams than ever, with 87 sides expected to attend.

Home ground advantage was evident last year with the Sunshine Coast Wanderers winning the girls gold cup, while the boys gold was won by Gold Coast Knights, and the silver cup went to Moreton Bay United.

A Football Queensland spokesperson said they were excited for the tournament to get underway.

“The FQ Junior Cup is an additional opportunity for our statewide junior players who aren’t playing regular competitive football to put the skills and techniques they’ve learnt throughout the season to the test in a competitive tournament environment,” they said.

“It also allows our promising players to obtain maximum high-quality match minutes against sides from across the state that they wouldn’t typically come up against in the regular league season.

“The FQ Junior Cup forms part of the FQ Academy program for players in the state development pathway and provides another platform for talent identification and player development tracking by the FQ team, coaches and technical staff.”

Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said the partnership with KommunityTV would take the fun and excitement from the Sunshine Coast into households across the state.

“After the success of last year’s event, Football Queensland can’t wait to elevate the FQ Junior Cup in 2024 as we partner with KommunityTV to bring live matches to members of our football community throughout the entire state,” Cavallucci said.

“With the FQ Junior Cup welcoming our top junior players from the FQ Academy across every region as sides compete for the Cup Championship title, we know there is significant demand statewide for matches to be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.”
