A Nambour teenager has fronted court again after breaching his suspended sentence by stealing two cars from homes in the hinterland and crashing them both.

Ethan James Voller, 19, faced court in April 2021 for stabbing a man four times and hitting a girl over the head with a bottle of rum after a fight in Buderim on January 6, 2020.

Crown prosecutor Sanaz Masoumi said Voller said “I’ve stabbed you, you dumb c–t” after the incident and then proceeded to stab him twice in the leg.

For the charges of grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm that he pleaded guilty to, Judge Ken Barlow sentenced Voller to five years in prison, suspended for five years and placed him on probation for three years.

Voller appeared in Maroochydore District Court again on December 1, 2022, for breaching his suspended sentence on several occasions.

Crown prosecutor Sanaz Masoumi said the first breach occurred on August 14, 2021, when he broke into a house at Cambroon and stole a bike, six bottles of alcohol and cutlery.

Police went to Voller’s mother’s house on August 19 but he jumped out of the window and ran away.

On November 19 at 2.30am he broke into a car in Maleny and drove it away using the spare key.

“A neighbour saw the defendant reverse into a brick wall and into a fence before driving away,” Ms Masoumi said.

Voller then crashed the car nearby and fled the scene.

Half an hour later, he broke into another house and stole a Toyota Prius parked on the driveway.

Police found Voller driving the Prius in Maleny towards Kenilworth but when they pursued him he drove away at 130km/h and they lost sight of him.

The court heard the prius was found later on the Bruce Highway as it had been involved in a crash and Voller had already fled.

Defence barrister David Crews said his client had a very dysfunctional upbringing with violence and alcohol in the household.

Mr Crews said he had spent a significant amount of his adult life in custody but now had employment, a girlfriend and stable accommodation.

“The issues surrounding the breach offences were that Mr Voller was living with his father and there was conflict … it was an unstable environment and he reverted to drinking,” Mr Crews said.

The court heard Voller now had stable accommodation living with his mother in Nambour and was taking steps at seeing a psychologist to deal with his alcohol issues.

Judge Cash adjourned the sentence to December 7, 2022.
