Mega gallery: Preps celebrate first day of school across the Wide Bay Burnett

Proud parents held back tears as prep classes of 2023 across the region began their years in the classroom. See some of the best moments captured on the first day.

The first day of school is a milestone to be remembered as young preppies waved goodbye to their families to step into the classroom.

Prep class of Gympie, Bundaberg, the Fraser Coast and South Burnett met their teachers as the were introduced to the world of schooling.

Arts and crafts, the playground and making friends were the highlights of the day as prep students proudly wore their school uniform and brightly coloured name badges for the first time.

Prep classes around the Fraser Coast were already hard at work, with the creative youngsters quick to get tucked in to a range of activities.

Some Bundaberg students learnt about safety with a special mascot, while other classes spent the day getting know each other and even some spider-inspired yoga classes.

Preps across Gympie couldn’t wait to try out the playground and get their hands on playdough, bricks and crayons to kickstart their creative minds.

A South Burnett school welcomed three sets of twins as the class spent their creative energy on decorating their “green sheep” and piecing together Lego.

Education Minister Grace Grace said Queensland schools were welcoming almost 875,000 students through the gates to start the school year.

“More than 571,000 students will attend Queensland’s 1262 state schools in 2023,” Ms Grace said.

“They will be guided by more than 55,000 teachers and 19,000 teacher aides from Day 1.

“I’d like to give a special shout out to 44,000 new preppies who are starting their very first day of school too.”
