Hundreds of people have flocked to Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum to celebrate Australia Day.

Among them was Gary Chappell, who was dressed from head to toe in Aussie gear.

Mr Chappell said Australia Day was his favourite day of the year.

“I like this day more than my own birthday,” he said.

Events were held across the Fraser Coast as the region celebrated Australia Day, including at the Maryborough Markets and at Glenwood.

From thong throwing to toad racing and live music, there was plenty of fun to be had during the day.
