A woman has died following a single-vehicle crash in St Helens near Maryborough this morning.
Police and emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle in water on Saltwater Creek Road about 8.55am.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 73-year-old Hervey Bay woman, died at the scene.
A spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said several crews were on the scene at St Helens, while a spokesman from the Queensland Fire Department confirmed a crew was at the scene of the rescue.
The QFD spokesperson said the car had been discovered on its roof submerged in water, while the person inside was able to be freed and worked on by paramedics.
The patient was being assessed in a life-threatening condition.
QPS closed Saltwater Creek Rd near St Helens State School.
Any witnesses, including anyone with relevant dashcam vision, is urged to contact police.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations into the circumstances leading up to the crash, remain ongoing.
