A serial public nuisance pest terrorised staff and the community at a petrol station, a hospital and shopping centres as she “rebelled against the system” on her way to racking up more than 20 offences.

Rebbekkah Kymberly Cutayar, 31, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court on October 18 where she pleaded guilty to 22 charges including six counts of public nuisance, two counts each of common assault and stealing, and one count of wilful damage.

The court heard that Cutayar’s offending happened in January, February, March, May, June, July and August of this year.

One of the public nuisance charges related to Cutayar attending a service station on Gladstone’s Toolooa Street where she approached fuel pumps and attempted to light “several fires” using fuel remnants and a lighter.

The court heard that Cutayar lit a book on fire near the fuel pumps.

Another of the public nuisance charges involved Cutayar creating a disturbance at Gladstone Hospital.

The court heard that Cutayar was given medication but she was then seen using it incorrectly.

When a hospital staffer advised Cutayar of this, she became agitated and struck the female worker with an open hand to the upper arm.

When police arrived at the hospital, they asked Cutayar to leave but she started screaming “over and over”, the court heard.

A further public nuisance incident involved Cutayar attending Community Solutions in Auckland Street, Gladstone, where she spoke to a trainee in a “hyped and agitated” state.

When a business leader joined the conversation, Cutayar said: “What the f--- do you want?”

The court heard the business leader remained quiet and Cutayar then said to her: “You’ve got the devil’s eyes - f--- off you c---.”

Another public nuisance incident happened at the Gladstone Valley Shopping Centre.

Police were called there after Cutayar made a derogatory comment to the centre manager and swore at her loudly in front of members of the public, the court heard.

The court was told that people avoided the area because of Cutayar’s behaviour (pacing around and appeared to be drug affected) and that had impacted businesses during lunch-time trading.

Cutayar was also a public nuisance at a chemist on Toolooa Street where she yelled and screamed, forcing the business to lock the front door, the court heard.

The stealing charge involved Cutayar taking someone’s mobile phone, accessing their bank account, and transferring $1307 to her bank account.

The wilful damage offence related to Cutayar using chalk to graffiti Yaralla Sports Club which included obscenities.

The court heard that Cutayar, with a four-page criminal history, had a chemical imbalance in her brain which impacted her mental health.

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Cutayar had suffered from drug abuse and during the months of her offending, she had “rebelled against the system.”

Ms Ramos said there were large periods of Cutayar’s life where she had not offended.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Cutayar to 10 months’ jail and declared 42 days in pre-sentence custody as time already served.

Ms Buchanan fixed parole release at October 18, 2023.

Cutayar was also ordered to pay $1307 restitution and convictions were recorded.
