A man who crashed his ute into his own house while moving it after a night of drinking has faced court.

Bradley Jeffrey Steven McAlpine pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and drink driving when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court this week.

Police prosecutor Sonia Edwards said on the night in question, McAlpine returned a blood alcohol reading of .175.

Sgt Edwards said on September 1, 2024, at 9.10pm police were sent to an address in Maryborough in relation to a single vehicle crash.

When they arrived they saw extensive damage to the stumps of a house, and a dual cab ute that had extensive damage to its front.

McAlpine had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes and the officers could smell liquor on his breath, Sgt Edwards said.

He said he had consumed alcohol earlier that evening at his mother’s home.

When questioned about the collision, he wasn’t overly cooperative, Sgt Edwards said, but told police he had shifted the vehicle from the driveway on the front footpath area and collided with the house.

The neighbours also heard the bang when the car collided with the stumps of the house, she said.

McAlpine had provided a roadside breath test that returned the reading of .175.

Sgt Edwards said McAlpine had not believed he was really breaking the law because he was not on the bitumen part of the road at the time.

She said it was McAlpine’s second high range reading in the last six months.

The court heard he had been employed for most of his life.

His parents had been helpful in driving him to and from his job, the court was told.

McAlpine had previously been a carer for his father.

Magistrate John Milburn said damage was sustained as a result of how McAlpine was driving that night.

He was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
