An Australian DJ who shot to fame as a teenager and later claimed he’d been “partially paralysed” by the Covid vaccine has been charged after allegedly entering a woman’s home and assaulting her, a court has heard.
Tyson Illingworth, 37, an internationally renowned musician known as tyDi who has recorded six studio albums and played in front of major festivals and crowds, hails from Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast but is understood to have been living in Hervey Bay in recent years.
His charge – entering a dwelling and commit, was mentioned in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday and further inquiries revealed he had been arrested on December 12, 2024, following the alleged altercation.
According to court documents, police allege Mr Illingworth went into a woman’s home at Urraween and assaulted her, but no further details were listed.
Mr Illingworth, a talented graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, was a popular artist in the mid 2000s and was named Best Breakthrough DJ at the International Dance Music Awards in 2010.
However, in recent years he had become somewhat of a recluse, telling his 200,000 Facebook followers that for a time, he’d lost the confidence he used to have when performing.
In 2022, he told News.com.au he “lost fine motor skills” after taking Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine and claimed five different doctors told him his symptoms were almost certainly a reaction to the injection.
His social media accounts highlight anti-establishment themes and frustrations with the media and music industry.
“People reach out to me now saying ‘dude I was with you the whole time when you were standing up for health’. That’s sweet, but what about so much of the music industry that shut me out for speaking up? The truth is out now, where are they? Guess I’m doing this album on my own,” he posted on Facebook in January.
In December, 2024, he posted to X saying he was “pumped” to be travelling to Russia to perform.
“Australian media: Don’t travel to Russia right now, you will die … Also Australian media: You must get the jab 100X times or you will die.
See you next month Russia, I can’t wait to see you all dancing to my new unreleased album, this will be beautiful”, he wrote.
In a February 1 Facebook post, he wrote “some people aren’t just in the matrix, they are so deeply programmed that they actively defend it and the narrative they’ve been spoon fed. Because waking up this late would be far too painful”.
Mr Illingworth did not appear in front of Magistrate Stephen Guttridge and his lawyer, Daniel Clare of Bennett Carroll Solicitors, appeared via telephone.
His appearance on Thursday morning was excused and the case will proceed as a full hand-up committal on April 20, 2025.
