Stealing a $3 pie from a supermarket and $155 worth of lights from Bunnings landed a repeat offender back before court.
Corey Allan Bingham pleaded guilty to unauthorised dealing with shop goods and stealing when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police prosecutor Sonia Edwards said in relation to the first charge, Bingham had stolen a $3 pie from Fresh & Save Maryborough.
Police had been patrolling the CBD on January 10, 2025, and found Bingham, who was wanted for questioning in relation to the matter.
The incident had happened on December 8, 2o24, Sgt Edwards said.
About 10.25am Bingham had entered Fresh & Save, grabbed a pie from the pie warmer and left without paying.
In relation to the stealing charge on January 27, 2025, he had entered Bunnings in Maryborough.
He went to the electronics section and removed two rechargeable work lights, a pocket work light and a LED worklight from the shelves.
Bingham placed the items in a backpack and left, the court heard.
The items cost a total of $155 and Bunnings was seeking restitution.
Sgt Edwards said there was nothing sophisticated about Bingham’s offending.
She said he did have dishonesty offending on his criminal history.
Representing himself, Bingham said he had since returned to Fresh & Save and paid for the pie.
The court heard he was currently unemployed and receiving Centrelink payments.
Magistrate John Milburn said stealing from businesses came at a cost to the whole community as it had to be factored into costings.
“Your history is extensive, relevant and quite recent,” he said.
“You’ve only just served a period of imprisonment where you were on parole after serving almost two months in custody for unrelated matters.
“You had a suspended sentence which was invoked when you were sentenced on the last occasion.”
Mr Milburn said Bingham had been sentenced to imprisonment for the charge of receiving tainted property in 2023 and had been sentenced for stealing charges in 2022.
Bingham was sentenced to one month in prison, wholly suspended for six months.
Convictions were recorded.
