Jessica Mauboy at the Empire Theatre

One of Australia’s most successful female artists is coming to Toowoomba, and there are only a handful of seats left in a tour that has already sold out in locations across Queensland.

In a near-sold out tour, Australian singer-songwriter Jessica Mauboy is performing at the Empire Theatre on Thursday in one of her few shows with tickets still remaining in Queensland.

The ARIA award-winning artist in now on tour with her fifth studio album Yours Forever with seven of the nine shows in Queensland sold out and she said she’s “incredibly lucky to see a lot of Australia when I’ve been travelling for my shows”.

Regional Queensland holds a special place for Mauboy, the small towns and countryside reminds her of being home in Darwin.

“I’m so excited to be taking my Yours Forever Tour all the way across the country so I’m looking forward to discovering any new spots that I haven’t seen yet,” she said.

Mauboy said she loved performing for passionate regional crowds.

“They have big hearts and a lot of gratitude when an artist has made the effort to travel to perform for them,” she said.

Yours Truly was written and recorded on her home soil in Darwin and reflects a journey of self-discovery and empowerment for Mauboy.

“Yours Forever is me at my truest self, comfortable in my skin, not comparing myself or trying to be someone or something that anyone expects me to be,” she said.

“When you strip it all back, musically it’s beautiful melodies, storytelling lyrics, rhythms that connect with the soul, and it has a depth that I’ve never gone to or shared before.”

A proud Kuku Yalanji and Wakaman woman who came to fame in 2006 as the runner-up in the fourth season of Australian Idol, Mauboy has only moved from strength to strength, taking her R & B pop songs into the charts and topping album sales.

The singer-songwriter is also an award-winning actress from her role in The Sapphires (2012), has toured with Beyonce, and made history as the first non-European solo artist to represent Australia at Eurovision in 2014.

Only a handful of tickets remain at Mauboy’s Empire Theatre concert on Thursday, April 11.
