The Toowoomba Choral Society was abuzz on Wednesday as more than 80 students milled around in colourful costumes, makeup and musicians as they rehearsed ahead of their Saturday show.
While all the rehearsals have been jam-packed into the two-week school holiday period, the preparation for the show started almost a year ago, with auditions taking place in March.
“We had a really hard time picking the roles just because we had such a talented bunch,” director Elliott Pflaum said.
Mr Pflaum has taken the reins of director this year with the support of a long-term creative team who have consistently “maintained a positive culture”.
He said he was excited to see the result of an intensive two weeks of hard work.
“People should expect a classic story, with awesome music, intense in some moments, but with some really nice themes of family and belonging.”
Hannah Pocknee (Jane) will be accompanied on stage by Elliot Grace (Tarzan) along with Micah Walmsley (Porter), Matthew McKenzie (Kerchak), Kiana Williams (Taie), Lara Anderson (Terk) and Dominque Wilkes (Kala).
In addition to the seven stars a chorus and ensemble of 78 other students ranging from 10 years old all the way to senior school year will donn costumes bringing to life the jungles of West Africa and the story of Tarzan and Jane.
The students will be on stage at the Empire Theatre this Saturday, July 6 with two performances at 2pm and 7pm.
