Ten things to do in Toowoomba this weekend

From monster trucks to a Pink Floyd concert and star gazing – there will be plenty of fun activities on in Toowoomba this weekend.

1. Monster truck mayhem

The best monster truck in Australia has arrived in Toowoomba and is warming up for its tour of destruction show on Saturday.

The volume will be turned up this weekend at the Toowoomba Showgrounds for a nail biting show of monster truck mayhem, from 4-6pm.

there will be monster trucks, a demolition derby and stunt acts, with fireworks from 5.45pm.

2. Pink Floyd tribute show

Some of Australia’s best musicians will come together on Sunday evening to perform the iconic work of British rockers Pink Floyd. From Dark Side of the Moon, to the Wall and Money – hear fan favourites, best-selling songs, and more in this re-imagined take on some of the genre’s classics. Doors open from 5pm. Tickets available from the Empire Theatre.

3. Dine in the vines

Shake off the winter chills and indulge in a glass or two at Rosalie House on Saturday. The Meringandan vineyard offers an intimate dining experience with four to six of your closest friends, nestled among the vines, and enjoy a meal you’ll never forget. There’ll also be an opportunity for wine-tasting and a private tour of the vineyard. Cost is $250 per person.

4. Live racing

Warm up with some action-packed live racing at Clifford Park on Saturday. Gather your mates and find your winter woollies, relax by the track and enjoy the action. Gates open from 10am, live racing from 4.30pm

5. Choral Society night

About 80 young people will perform Tarzan at the Empire Theatre on Saturday.

In addition to the seven stars, a chorus and ensemble of 78 other students ranging from 10 years old all the way to senior school year will don costumes bringing to life the jungles of West Africa and the story of Tarzan and Jane.

The two performances start at 2pm and 7pm.

6. NAIDOC Awards

Celebrate our region’s best and brightest at the 2024 NAIDOC Awards.

The dinner will feature canapes and a two-course meal, plus a cash bar. Tickets cost $50 per person, with a smart casual dress code. To arrange a corporate table, contact toowoombanaidoc@outlook.com.

The will be held at 5.30pm Saturday at St Patrick’s Cathedral Centre.

7. Weekend markets

There’s a variety of markets across the region this weekend, including the Toowoomba Farmers Market, outside Cobb & Co Museum from 7am-midday Saturday and the Makers Market, Goods Shed on Victoria St from 8am-1pm Sunday.

8. Ride the Rail

DownsSteam Tourist Railway and Museum will run its steam locomotive, the Pride of Toowoomba, from its Drayton depot to Wyreema on Sunday.

Take in the rolling scenery while ensconced in the luxury of a bygone era.

The train departs at 2pm with a 3.45pm return.

9. Stargazing at UniSQ

Look up at the sky and see the beauty of the stars, galaxies, planets and crescent moon.

The University of Southern Queensland and Ournightsky Astronomy will be holding a stargazing session to look through a telescope and into outer space.

See open and globular star clusters, nebula, dead stars, galaxies and more.

Participants can meet the event organisers on the south side of the main drive to the UniSQ off West St, opposite the Gumbi Gumbi Gardens. A sign will also be displayed near one of the flagpoles to show directions.

Running from 6-8pm on Saturday, the event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if it becomes too cloudy, rains or storms. The event is free.

10. Movie night

Grand Central’s Event Cinemas has a range of great kids’ movies playing over the last weekend of winter school holiday.

They include Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4 and The Garfield Movie.
