6am Rise and shine! Glass of water after giving our Bobby our dog a treat. Then I make a strong coffee for my beautiful wife and me, delivered with a smile! Half hour of stretching and work emails, and then making my daughters’ school lunches. Then it’s green juice for my wife and me: half a head of broccoli, a big chunk of ginger, a whole-skinned lemon, baby spinach, parsley and water. This has had a positive impact on all my old injuries over the past two years.

10am A homemade muesli cookie after a gym session.

12.30pm After a Zoom writers’ session, I have three eggs on rice cakes with avocado, feta and some chilli sauce.

3pm Afternoon tea of fruit, crackers and dip with my kids.

6.30pm Crumbed chicken with broccoli, oven potatoes, beans, peas and gravy.

Dr Joanna McMillan says:

Top marks for… Your green juice. That’s an excellent way to get more vegies into your day. Added to those at dinner, you met your recommended five daily serves – provided your portions were big enough.

If you keep eating like this you’ll… Still fall short on fibre as you don’t eat enough wholegrains, nuts or seeds. Eating a variety of fibre types is also important to fuel a healthy gut microbiome. You would also benefit from eating more protein earlier in the day, closer to your gym workout.

Why don’t you try… Having yoghurt with milk, muesli and berries, or smoked salmon on rye, with your green juice. Ensure the rice cakes and crackers are wholegrain, or swap them for wholegrain sourdough bread. Add nuts to your afternoon tea.

Jeremy Lindsay Taylor stars in the film Audrey, out now.
