Unforgettable yum cha next door to Maccas and Red Rooster? Such is the bounty of Manningham Road.
At Golden Dragon, each trolley delivery feels like a true gift: deep-fried taro puffs offer up wispy crunch, and translucent pork and peanut dumplings walk the sweet-salty flavour tightrope. Watched over by towering, ornately carved dragons, efficient staff tear open lotus leaves to expose sticky rice with lap cheong, salted egg yolk and chicken mince.
Steamer lids are lifted to unveil golden bean curd enveloping juicy prawns. Extra-large siu mai resemble miniature dinosaur nests complete with hard-boiled quail eggs, and the steamed rice noodle rolls cheung fun come filled with fat prawns or sweet barbecue pork.
For dessert it’s pudding all the way: baked, caramelised sago or jiggly mango with condensed milk. Bring a container to cart home leftovers
– a gift to your future self.
