Flamingos & Dingos
It's little more than a caffeine stop for surfers heading up the coast, but Jeff Ryan's F & D is slowly getting its own waves of caffeinated fans. Squatting happily in what was (for a minute) The Garden Room, it's a cool place to perch on one of the few tall stools for a quality brew by Single Origin Roasters ($3.50). There's detail, too, with a double ristretto coming with a shot glass of sparkling water for the palate. A tiny menu features granola with grated apple, banana, yoghurt and mint, and sourdough topped with feta and avocado, or a croque-monsieur that's heavy with ham, cheese and pickles. Think of it as fuel for the waves.
