Black Star Pastry

Contemporary

Punters perched on stools out front and queued in the shoebox-sized space inside would agree: it’s all gold stars for Black Star. There are gorgeous cakes (the layered strawberry, watermelon and rose cream cake is particularly pretty, and a marvel of fresh flavours and contrasting textures), super-cute gingerbread ninjas, and legendary pies (locally brewed Young Henrys beer is put to good use in the flaky pastry-wrapped beer and brisket number). Sandwiches and quiches round out the savoury options, but the sweet treats are hardest to resist, including gold leaf topped salted-caramel panna cotta. A bigger Rosebery branch was set to open as we went to press.
