Gem Cottage Mornington
Cafe$$
Run by a husband-and-wife team, Gem Cottage is a welcoming little pad. Inside it’s warm and coppery, while the enclosed porch has a cute white-picket vibe. The menu is straight-up and unfussy - just good, fresh flavours lined up neatly together. Nutty porridge comes with vanilla-poached dates and apricots. A hearty maple chicken salad echoes its sweet woodsy flavours with pumpkin and roasted walnuts. French toast comes sweet with strawberries or Canadian with bacon. If you’re after something simple, there are freshly made sandwiches, wraps and a daily soup, too (the spicy lentil is a standout) plus lovely muffins to go with the Lavazza.
