Beatrix
Contemporary$$
Beatrix has your grandmother's name. Peer through the venetian blinds: it has her decor, too. The attentive staff wear her aprons and inside it's as small as her kitchen. A '50s-style counter is piled with the same treats she baked when you were very good: buttery, cream-filled yo-yos, whoopie pies and chiffon cake. Coffee is malty with a long, pleasant aftertaste. Healthy meals come in the form of home-made granola, a daily ciabatta, or spicy Israeli-style braised peppers with fried egg, feta and mint in a roll. Beatrix is kind like your grandma, too: there's a 50-cent discount for BYO cups and cyclists.
