Piccolo Bar
Italian
Kings Cross is changing fast, and a whole raft of new small bars and cafes are emerging to balance out the drinking dens. But, if you ever wanted to pay your respects to the history of the Cross, come on down to the Piccolo. This tiny cafe off the strip of Kings Cross has been open since 1952, with the wonderfully fey Vittorio Bianchi still working the floor with his cheeky Italian charm. The Ducale coffee is just how the old boys like it, a caffe latte ($3.50) served hot, and the espresso dark-roasted and not for the faint of heart. The food is both filling and affordable, and the experience? Priceless.
