You’re wandering along the boardwalk, past the oyster leases towards a small, wooden shack. It’s perched on the water, with rowboats hitched against its dock, and inside, the dining room is all vintage charm. This is Sunny’s, the seasonal dining destination (wine bar in summer, breakfast and lunch spot year-round) from chefs Tess Podger and Matty Johnston.

Whenever you visit, there’ll be beautiful food showcasing produce from neighbouring farms and fishermen. Spiced lentil dhal is a standout – aromatic, creamy and crunchy, with juicy portobello mushrooms. A simple charred zucchini and butterbean salad is punched up with preserved lemons, pickled onions and toasty pine nuts. And the huevos rancheros is big, bold and textural.

Linger on the verandah with a glass of low-intervention wine, or a coffee with a slice of coconutty lumberjack cake. (And we should mention there’s boat hire, too!)
