Bistro Vue
15/20
French$$$
A slice of Paris in the heart of Melbourne, Bistro Vue promises an authentic French experience, right down to the regular piano accordion player at the back of the restaurant. A cosy collection of dining rooms sport plush cherry-red banquettes, rustic timber furniture and chichi vintage prints. The menu is equally referential to the Old World, with a recognisable line-up of bistro classics and benchmark French wines. House-smoked trout comes fanned across a plate, with toasted brioche and a selection of mix-and-match accoutrements, such as eschalot, citrus, capers and chives. For mains, be tempted by the braise of the week (perhaps fall-apart beef cheeks) or duck confit with petite carrots, parsnips and sauteed potatoes. Turned at the table and drizzled with creme anglaise, the caramel-rich, clove-studded tarte tatin is a stellar example. Plentiful plats du jour, a chef’s menu and polished yet personable service add to the Gallic charm.
And … The L’Humeur du Chef menu delivers six courses for $110.
