PINT coach Rick Nolan wasted no time describing his women’s premiership side as the most professional and hardest trainers he has coached after the Queenants beat Waratah by 40 points in the 2022-23 NTFL grand final.
PINT won their second flag in three years when they doubled Tahs’ score in a 12.8 (80) to 6.4 (40) win for the ages.
A premiership coach at Men’s Premier League side St Mary’s, Nolan has two WPL premiership medals in his trophy cabinet already and is keen to add to that tally.
Nolan was quick to praise his players for an “outstanding’’ four quarter performance, paying particular attention to long serving Queenant Katie Streader, who returned to the side late in the seson.
“Katie was outstanding for us on the wing after returning from an ACL and having a baby and Jas was just Jas, it was one of our very special wins,’’ he added.
Hewett showed why she was fiercely pursued by AFLW clubs Gold Coast and Adelaide with another best on ground performance that placed her side on premiership avenue and in sight of the silver trophy.
Waratah started the game in a hurry, booting two goals in the first five minutes through Naomi Celebre and the elusive Jenna Singh to grab the early ascendancy.
But the Queenants, with Williams medallist Hewett in superlative form around the ground and Stephanie Lawrence and Katie Streader finding plenty of the ball, wasted no time getting back into the game.
Goals to Hewett, Lawrence and Reni Hicks shot the Queenants to a three-point lead at the first change and apart from a brief period in the second term when a Laura Smith goal snatched back the lead for Waratah, the green and gold stripes were in total control.
Spearhead Stephanie Lawrence showed her class with two opportunist goals in the second quarter that saw PINT lead by 17 points at half-time and on top of their rivals.
PINT captain Cassie Henderson could not contain her emotions at the final siren, saying every player had grabbed their opportunity with relish, making the most of every possession they got.
“Their was a lot of positivity and hope in the changerooms before the game and it turned out that way.’’
Tahs went into the game without inspirational ruck Stephanie O’Brien who had private commitments and lost Megan Hunt to injury in the second quarter and struggled to find the ball against the hungry Queenants.
Coach Heidi Thompson said injury had kept goalkicker Lisa Miceli out of the grand final and a long-term injury to key position player Lisa Roberts had also worked against her side.
“We just didn’t have the players to match up on some of their key players who really stood up when it counted,’’ she added.
Hewett was over the moon following the match giving full credit to her team after another massive year for the PINT ladies.
“It was an absolute team effort, there’s no doubt everyone played their role, we had a plan and went in and executed, I’m so proud of them,” she said, after receiving best on ground.
“We’ve been here before, but this win just feels extra special, the girls were all amazing and this feels great.
“We have so many volunteers, so many girls willing to learn. Some missed out on the game, but they’re still around supporting us, we just have the best people and that’s what makes our club special.”

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW
It’s all come down to this for the Waratah and PINT women as they face off in the premier league grand final.
And the NT News will be there to livestream every minute of the game for you from 4.15pm, Saturday.
Tahs were the first side into the grand final after winning the major semi-final against PINT, putting themselves in position to win their ninth premiership.
And with that win behind them they will be brimming with confidence, hoping to win again this weekend to claim their first flag since the 2018-19 season.
Aggie Singh is the x-factor in this side, while Steph O’Brien has been the standout performer of the finals series so far.
PINT have been the side to beat over the past three seasons winning their first ever premiership in the 2020-21 season, and finishing as minor premiers this year.
And though they suffered a brief hiccup in the semi-final will be eager to make amends and get their hands on just their second premiership.
The Queenants aren’t short of firepower with Amy Chittick and Steph Lawrence up front, while Jasmyn Hewett proved in the prelim final comeback win she can also chip in with a goal or two.
