Brooke Blurton says Abbie Chatfield ‘tainted’ her season of The Bachelorette
Abbie Chatfield appeared as one of Brooke Blurton’s “best friends” on the Bach finale last night, but Brooke has today lashed out at the reality star.
Brooke Blurton has responded to whispers of a feud in the Bachelor universe, admitting a controversial move from Abbie Chatfield “tainted” her season of The Bachelorette.
The 26-year-old — who chose Darvid Garayeli as her forever love in last night’s episode, shut down claims she unfollowed Abbie Chatfield on Instagram after the podcast host announced she’s officially dating one of Blurton’s former suitors, Konrad Bien-Stephens.
While she insisted the pair are “still friends”, she admitted the “spoilers” which saw Chatfield and Bien-Stephens kissing in a nightclub before the finale “tainted the season”.
Frontrunner Bien-Stephens was sent packing after the hometown visits this season, leaving viewers heartbroken as they were convinced he’d last the distance.
But before the episode aired — and just weeks after the finale was filmed — video emerged of Chatfield and Bien-Stephens kissing in Byron Bay, with the pair officially confirming they were an item in a series of loved-up photos this week.
“I guess because Konrad was such a favourite, the spoilers taint the show a little bit,” Brooke told KIIS FM radio presenters Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson today.
“If people know what the outcome would be, they’re not going to watch the show. And that’s fair enough.”
In a further twist to the Bachelor love tangle, Chatfield appeared as one of Blurton’s “best friends” to veto the final two ahead of the last rose ceremony last night, with eagle-eyed social media users noticing Blurton appeared to unfollow her on Instagram hours before the moment aired.
According to Brooke, it was an honest mistake.
“I didn’t unfollow her intentionally, it wasn’t done with any malice. I actually only followed Darvid back last night,” Blurton told news.com.au.
Commenting on her friend’s new relationship with Bien-Stephens, she said: “We’ve spoken about the whole situation, obviously they’ve announced that they’re public and we’re really happy for them. There are so many rumours and tabloid-y articles, but we’re friends, that’s why I had Abbie on the season.”
Speaking today, Blurton explained that Chatfield had told her she was interested in the before going public, saying: “She kind of wanted some validation as to whether he was good enough, I was like ‘yeah he’s a good soul’. I think they’re honestly made for one another.
“I know everyone was gunning for Konrad so them getting papped in Byron Bay was a bit of a dull moment for the season, but we all got over it. I’m really happy for them, and Millie and Holly who are together as well,” she added of the two contestants who also struck up a romance after meeting in the mansion.
“I’m just stoked that three pretty iconic couples came out of one season,” she added, joking that they’d “have to hit them up” for a triple date.
Chatfield’s relationship announcement came at an awkward time given her “best friend” cameo, with viewers taking to social media during the finale to question why she was dating her best friend’s ex.
Others also pointed out how Chatfield, a regular contributor on social media, had not posted anything about Blurton finding love. Pointedly, she congratulated Channel 9’s Love Island winners, Mitch and Tina yesterday morning.
Abbie Chatfield not posting about her best friend finding love is somewhat hilariousâ¦â¦ ð #BacheloretteAU

Chatfield – who is currently still following Blurton – also didn’t post anything about her cameo on The Bachelorette, which is highly unusual given she normally documents her multiple media appearances.
When Blurton was announced as this season’s Bachelorette back in May, Chatfield took to Instagram to declare how thrilled she was that her friend would be the leading lady.
“The Indigenous representation! The queer representation! It gives me goosebumps thinking about what this means for Australia!” Chatfield wrote, alongside a selfie of the pair.
“Brooke is one of the best people I’ve ever met. She’s intelligent, down to earth, hilarious and knows herself so bloody well. Love you sooo much.”
The pair are yet to comment on the apparent falling out.
